Herrings are the most traditional things my family has at the Christmas dinner table. We have lots of different kind of fishes at the table as well as fish roe.
We prepare herrings in at least two different sauces: mustard and clear sauce. I can’t imagine Christmas without a jar filled with mustard sauce and herring fillets. Brings water in my mouth instantly! The recipe below is an altered version of the Christmas herrings – I’m storing chopped chive and parsley in the freezer and I used them for seasoning this dish.
